I dont get it!!     

barman gave 2 beers : 1 for the first who ordered and 1 for everyone else. because no matter of how many there are , if they always order the half beer from what the previous one ordered , putting them all together will not exceed a whole beer.
its 0,5+0,25+0,125+0.0625+0.03125+....=1

but still i dunno why thats funny ....    

noobs. lets say:

S= 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 + ... + 1/2^n (n tends to infinity according to the "joke")

multiply x2

2s=2/2 + 2/4 + 2/8 +... + 2/2^n = 1 + 1/2 + 1/4 + ... + 1/2^(n-1) (cuz 2/2^n = 1/2^n*2^-1)
2s= 1 + s - 1/2^n (cuz 1/2^(n-1) is one number before 1/2^n, so from the first equation if u move 1/2^n to first part u get this)
substracting S from both parts
S= 1-1/2^n
now if u tend n to infinity then 1/2^n tends to 0 which means that S = 1. Magic? its true and it can be proven geometrically too

Ok  

You can get an exact estimation(there where only a small crowd of them who wanted beer , three actualy xD)  you got it up pretty ugly(the aritmetica was awfully good btw :Pbut impossible in the end ) , the bartender acted naturally and you should  make haste slowly in future he could have not possibly talk to a infinite number of people (who can ?what about all of them inside a bar xD )
